Week 1
"... maintain constant love for one another"
"... be hospitable to one another"
"Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received."
These words are taken from 1 Peter 4, last Friday's Bible readings. As Pastor Jim said in his message at Carbon Cliff last Sunday, as a church we do many things to show love for one another and to serve God. I know that this is true for each of the churches in our Parish. For this week's blog discussion, please tell four or five things you feel your church does to show love for God and for one another. Also, give one suggestion or idea that you feel we could do that would help our church to flourish more. Feel free to elaborate on any of your comments. Please give your first name and church.

I feel we do many things at Carbon Cliff to show our love for God and for others.
1. We take communion the first Sunday of the month to those not able to come to church.
2. We have an active prayer request program to support one another and our neighbors everywhere through prayer.
3. We make our church available and provide leadership and volunteers for the Summer Lunch Ministry.
4. We are always willing to support the needs of our community and the world. Examples would be Souper Bowl Sunday, winter clothes for children in need, Adopt-A-Child at Christmas, Hurricane Katrina Relief, and many more.
One suggestion that I have for our church is to have a "Bring a Friend to Church Sunday." We could pick one Sunday this spring, such as the third Sunday in May, and each of us ask one or more friends who have no church affiliation to be our guest at a Sunday Service.

The web page for our parish is an example of dedication of people in the Twin Rivers Parish -
Carbon Cliff is a wonderful church from the actual wonderful people that attend to the programs that our church family support!
Carbon Cliff needs to show everyone what a great place it is to get to know God with the help of our pastors, lay leaders, prayer partner group and all the love and friendship our members offer -
Suggestions? maybe ask the congregation on a specific Sunday what they would like to see/change, if anything -- adults, kids, anyone there

We need to learn more about other religions.

We do many things to show our love for God and others. Don listed a lot of things that we do, and our congregation is always ready to make visitors feel welcome.
I really like the "Bring a Friend to Church Sunday" idea.
I also like the idea of learning more about other religions. Janet must have been reading my mind because that is something I have been thinking about this week (something about seeing the anger over a cartoon started me thinking). When I was in Sunday School we learned about some of the world's religions. Not in great detail, but it was enough to help me respect other religions. We even got to go to a Bas (?) Mitzvah (the one for girls). I could use a refresher course.
Also, I've been working with a friend's church's prayer shawl ministry. We've had a great time and it would fit in well with our prayer partners. Maybe ours could be a hats/mittens ministry for kids in need. (I think Marla already started this with all the hats she made).

At PB 1st, we are God's hands in many ways: Wednesday's R 4 Kids has a terrific leadership group (headed up by the untiring Pat Griffith along with her many helpers); UMW hosts mission meals 4 times a year at Mt Zion in East Moline; and Souper Bowl Sunday ended up with 860 items and $65 ($5 at the last minute came in). Let's keep up the good work!

I JOINED THE C.C. CHURCH ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND HAVE IMMENSLY ENJOYED EVERYONE. THE CONGREGATION IS VERY FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL TO ANY NEED. WE MAY BE SMALL, BUT VERY BIG AT HEART. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE CHILDREN IN ATTENDENCE AND PERHAPS BY BUILDING A SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS, WE COULD ENTICE THE YOUNG PEOPLE TO BE A PART OF OUR FAMILY. WE HAVE A FEW PROGRAMS ALREADY AIDING THE YOUNG PEOPLE AND THANKS TO THE ADULTS WHO HAVE TAKEN ON THE RESPONSIBILITY OF WORKING WITH THESE YOUNG PEOPLE, A SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS LOOKS RATHER PROMISING. IT IS THE YOUNG PEOPLE WHO WILL HELP THIS CHURCH GROW. BEV.
